## 术语表

- 听力图: 动物的听力成绩单：一张曲线图，显示每个高度的声音要多大，它才刚开始听得见。线越低，耳朵越灵。跟你在耳鼻喉科做的检查是同一类。
- 超声: 高到人耳再也接收不到的声音，大约在 20,000 Hz 以上。对你来说是彻底的寂静，可狗、猫和蝙蝠听得清清楚楚。所谓“无声”的狗哨，正是响在这个区间。
- 次声: 低到人耳再也接收不到的声音，大约在 20 Hz 以下。与其说听见，不如说你会感到胸口发颤，就像一辆重卡从旁边开过。大象和鸽子却能察觉到它，哪怕在几公里之外。
- 赫兹（Hz）: 赫兹数的是一个声音每秒振动多少次。振动少就是低音（雷声的轰隆，约 30 Hz）；振动多就是高音（微波炉的提示音，约 3,000 Hz）。而“1 kHz”只是 1,000 Hz 的简写。你能听到的大致是 20 Hz 到 20,000 Hz。
- 听阈: 一个声音不再是寂静的最小音量：也就是动物刚开始听见它的那个点。这个点越低，耳朵越灵敏。

## 说句实话

这是一次忠实的近似，而不是精确复制。我们依据的是科学研究中公布的测量数据，但没有人能钻进动物脑袋里，去核对它真正的感受。

Thresholds are digitised from published behavioural and neurophysiological
audiograms; every species page lists its citations. In-air curves are dB SPL
(re 20 µPa); underwater species use dB re 1 µPa and invertebrates use
relative/detection-band curves — each page states which.
